Бесит, когда Локи не любят только потому, что он, видите ли, образом не совпал с прототипом из мифов. В чем проблема? Просто не смешивайте этих двух персонажей.

Tom Hiddleston in Hamlet review: a supremely self-assured Prince - Rada's Jerwood Vanbrugh Theatre

«Yesterday, yet another Hamlet was born. London has seen a spate of them in recent years; there are three different productions playing in the capital this weekend alone. But none has been as anticipated as this one since Benedict Cumberbatch played the Dane in 2015.

The reason for the fuss? The presence of British heartthrob du jour Tom Hiddleston in the lead and the fact that this production has a unique, exclusive intimacy. Running in Rada’s tiny, 160-seat Jerwood Vanbrugh theatre, and directed by that Shakespearean master Kenneth Branagh, it has been put on to raise money for the drama school, and tickets were allocated through a tout-proof online ballot. Unfortunately, for the many not lucky enough to get in, there is as yet no plan to record it for posterity.

It’s a shame, as this Hamlet hooks you in at once. In a space with only three rows of seats (flanking the stage on three sides), the audience are only ever a couple of meters away from the action, which lends this modern-dress production a special kind of claustrophobia.

It opens with Hiddleston’s sharp profile, silhouetted in front of a small piano. He sings “And will he not come again?” in a quivering voice - the words that Ophelia uses to mourn her father Polonius - barely holding off tears, before leaving the stage in almost complete darkness.

After that poignant opening, Branagh has a lot more tricks up his sleeve: Claudius’s “inauguration speech” is played as if filmed for the press, in a space that recalls the White House. Strikingly, in the second act this presidential setting falls away, to be replaced by a minimalist, cinematic backdrop of a cloudy sky.

Gender-swapping Rosencrantz and Guildenstern (Ayesha Antoine and Eleanor de Rohan) is nothing new, but Branagh also reimagines Horatio as Horatia, who is passionately incarnated by Caroline Martin. It adds a surprising new dimension to one of the character’s last conversations with Hamlet before his exile. They embrace, stare into each other eyes intensely, and for one charged moment look to be on the precipice of a kiss.

There are a number of surprising comic touches; Laertes (Ifran Shamji) gives sister Ophelia (Kathryn Wilder) a package of condoms while instructing her to be careful around Hamlet. Later, Polonius (the wonderfully vibrant, scene-stealing Sean Foley) gives a similar but much bigger pack to Laertes while lecturing him.

It’s that sense of humour that singles out this Hamlet from other recent productions; never have I laughed so much at an account of the Prince of Denmark’s suffering. A wry edge is present in the smallest details; Hamlet, while discussing “words, words, words,” with Polonius, is reading Matt Haig’s Reasons to Stay Alive.

And as for the main event, Hiddleston? His Hamlet is proactive, masculine, edgy to the point of aggression - and definitely, absolutely sane. His madness is a ruse, through and through. Having decided to “be mad by craft”, he appears wrapped in the flag of Denmark with his face painted in the national colours, like a hardcore football fan.

His take on the character is more in line with Cumberbatch’s expressive Hamlet than, say, Andrew Scott’s understated one in Robert Icke’s acclaimed production (whose West End transfer has just ended).

However, arguably, Hiddleston never quite gets under the skin of the character. His soliloquies, with their sometimes unvarying intonation, can feel too much like beautifully acted words rather than thoughts and feelings experienced by the character, here and now. What he lacks in instinctiveness, though, he makes up for in self-assurance.

Meanwhile, he is at his most affecting in the “Get thee to a nunnery” scene when his anger is undercut by a tenderness that is heartbreaking. Moments like this suggest that this is a performance that could grow deeper and deeper; it’s just a shame that it only has three weeks to do so - but you wouldn’t bet against Hiddleston returning to the role in a more public forum.»

Томме понравился на фотках с кинжалом. Еще с Браной.
Крис хорош в джинсе. В плаще тож ничего, но взгляд для таких фото не подходящий.

Описание книги Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig:
В книге прослеживается связь с Гамлетом
Matt mentions lots of well known people who suffered from depression. He mentioned Hamlet (as fictional character) who also had depression.

Hiddleston's Hamlet praised by theatregoers

«Tom Hiddleston's performance as Hamlet has been praised by theatregoers after the Shakespearian tragedy opened to a select audience in London.
The Thor and Night Manager star delivered a performance full of "grief and rage", according to ticketholders.
The play began its three-week run at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art's 160-seat theatre on Friday night.
But few will be lucky enough to see it, with all tickets sold through an online ballot and no recording planned.
The performance is directed by Rada president Sir Kenneth Branagh, who directed Hiddleston in the role of Loki in his breakthrough movie, Thor.
As pictures of Branagh's leather-clad Hamlet made front pages of Saturday's newspapers, some audience members took to social media to deliver their reviews, with #Hamlet trending on Twitter in the UK by Friday night.
Many commented on the unique intimacy of the theatre, which means the audience are never more than a few metres from the cast.
The production at London's Jerwood Vanbrugh is a fundraiser, with all proceeds going towards Rada's Attenborough campaign, which aims to upgrade one of its main London sites and to provide on-site student accommodation.
Speaking ahead of the production, Hiddleston said: "The performing arts exist to bring people together, not to break or keep them apart. We need to keep the doors open for everyone."
He added: "Kenneth Branagh and I have long talked about working on the play together, and now felt like the right time, at the right place."
There were some surprises from the actor, including singing, piano playing and a reading of Matt Haig's 'Reasons to stay alive' - a memoir about depression.
Hiddleston had plenty of funny moments too, theatre goer Emma Billman said, adding "that man is hilarious when he wants to be".
For Mary Kinberry however, Hiddleston's "clear, solid" Hamlet lacked the "soulful openess" of Andrew Scott's, who is playing the part in the West End's Harold Pinter theatre for the last time on Saturday night.
The professional critics were also impressed - although they reportedly had to win tickets through the ballot like everyone else.
It was four stars from the Telegraph, which said Hiddleston's anger was "undercut by a tenderness that is heartbreaking".
Meanwhile, the Guardian's theatre critic, Michael Billington, praised the star's "ability to combine a sweet sadness with an incandescent fury".
For Hiddleston fans, reviews were scant comfort for not being able to see the man himself.
For them, posts like those from audience member Matthew Lumby, may be the closest they will get.
In a thread of tweets, Mr Lumby gave his verdict on the "well-paced" three hours of Hiddleston's "strong, classical" Hamlet.
He credited the supporting cast, staging and lighting and said by the end, most of the audience were on their feet.
"Overall a strong production by Branagh and Hiddleston for a good cause. Sad that so few people will be lucky enough to see it," he concluded.»

Tom Hiddleston returns to the stage following ex Taylor Swift’s shady video release for Look What You Made Me Do

Tom Hiddleston looked incredibly pensive as he made his debut in Hamlet following Taylor Swift’s reference to him in her shady music video that basically served as a middle-finger to all of her haters.

Since Taylor released Look What You Made Me Do the internet has not been able to stop talking about it, thanks to all the subliminal messages the former country singer slipped in.

Fans quickly picked up on the fact that Taylor couldn’t go without making a reference to her ex-boyfriend Tom in the video for the song that got her her first UK number one.

In the video, her dancers are all wearing I HEART TS crop tops in tribute to the 36-year-old actor.

You might remember that ex-boyfriend Tom was papped on their 4th of July beach day out wearing a white vest top that said the same thing. Yeah, that was kind of weird looking back.
But it seems like Tom is over the reference as he mesmerised 160 fans in an intimate production of the Shakespeare tragedy Hamlet.

The Golden Globe winner made his debut as Hamlet in Kenneth Branagh’s production at Rada on September 1.

Pictures from his show see him pose cradling a skill, whilst another shows him locked in a sword battle.

Taylor, and the actor who plays villain Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies like Thor and The Avengers, made headlines most of last year because of their whirlwind romance.

When asked by the press whether he regretted his relationship with Swifty the Kong actor got a little shirty.

While chatting about his new movie Kong: Skull Island, he was asked by The Telegraph if he regretted ‘the publicity and gossip the romance engendered.’

Having previously called her ‘amazing’, Tom reportedly answered ‘testily’ with a: ‘What should I regret, in your mind? I would rather not talk about this if that’s alright.’
He then added: ‘I’m just thinking about this. Everyone is entitled to a private life. I love what I do and I dedicate myself with absolute commitment to making great art and great entertainment, and in my mind I don’t conflict the two.

‘My work is in the public sphere and I have a private life. And those two things are separate.’

Well fair play, Tom.

The couple split in September, after meeting each other’s parents and getting tongues wagging by gallivanting around the world in very public displays of affection.
